He is the son of Bob Urban and Marienne Urban. He has one sibling Shane Urban.

In 2006, He married to actress Nicole Kidman. The couple blessed with two daughters, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, and Faith Margaret Kidman Urban.


He had attended Sir Edmund Hillary College in Otara, South Auckland, New Zealand but had dropped out of school when he had been 15 in order to pursue a career in music.


In 1991, He had released his self-titled debut album ‘Keith Urban’ with EMI Australia. During the early 1990s, He toured as a backup to Slim Dusty and showed a reworked version of Dusty’s ‘Lights on the Hill’. He also performed at the Grand Ole Opry backing Dusty. In 19912, He had moved to the U.S and there he struggled for years to find a footing and also developed a cocaine habit. In 1997, He had made a country music band called ‘The Ranch’ with fellow musicians Jerry Flowers and Peter Clarke. Keith had played several musical devices for the band in addition to being the lead vocalist. In 1998, The band had released only one album and two singles before breaking up. In the Next year 1999, He had released his self-titled American debut album ‘Keith Urban’. In 2004, His ‘Be Here’ created three which was No. 1 singles on the Hot Country Songs charts and two No. 2 hits. Keith wrote nine of the songs on this album himself. In 2009, He released the album titled ‘Defying Gravity’. The album’s lead-off single named ‘Sweet Thing’ covered the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 2016, He had come up with his ninth studio album, ‘Ripcord’. For this album, He had cooperated with numerous musicians, such as Pitbull, Carrie Underwood, and Nile Rodgers. The album had been a big hit and had also been nominated for Best Country Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
