Muhammad Ali was an American Professional Boxer, born on January 17, 1942, In Kentucky, U.S.

Family Background:

His father name was Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr. and his mother name was Odessa Grady Clay. He had one sister and four brothers.

Personal Life:

Ali had married four times. He had seven daughters and two sons. First, he married cocktail waitress Sonji Roi on August 14, 1964. They divorced on 10 January 1966. On 17 August 1967, he married to  Belinda Boyd. They divorced in 1977. In the same year, he married Veronica Porché Ali and In1986 they divorced. In 1986, He married to Yolanda Williams.

Career:

Ali made his amateur boxing debut in 1954. In this, he won by split decision. after four years, In 1960, He went to Summer Olympics in Rome to win the six Kentucky Golden Gloves titles, Two national Golden Gloves titles, and the Light Heavyweight gold medal. On October 29, 1960, He made his professional boxing debut. From then till 1963, He recorded 19-0 with 15 wins by knockout. Late 1963, Ali became the top contender for Sonny Liston’s title. On February 25,  1964, He won the World Heavyweight Title. He was the youngest person to achieve the World Heavyweight Title this landmark. After winning the championship, he changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. In 1967, He had refused to serve the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War. This caused a huge uproar and he was disqualified from his Heavyweight title and boxing license. That meant that he had not able to fight in any state in the U.S. Ali had also charged of five years in prison which meant his boxing career was almost over. Ali had been back in the ring but he had lost out on the peak years of his boxing career. On the return, In October 1970, He had won in three rounds against Jerry Quarry. He had won the rematch and he became the first person to win the Heavyweight title three times. After this win, He immediately announced his retirement. On December 20, 2014, Ali was hospitalized for a mild case of pneumonia. After sometimes again he was hospitalized On January 15, 2015, for a urinary tract infection. He had released next day. On June 2, 2016,  Ali was hospitalized in Scottsdale because of illness. On the following day on 3 June 2016, at the age of 74, he died.

  • Before becoming as Muhammad Ali, He changed his name to Cassius X.
  • Ali was banned from boxing for three years.
  • He recorded an album of spoken verse.

  • In 1975, He won the Milliyet Sports award.
  • In 1978, He received the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award.
  • In 1997, He received the Arthur Ashe Courage.
  • In 2002, He received the BET Humanitarian award.
