Raj Kapoor was an Indian Film actor, director and known as the greatest Showman of Indian Cinema, born on 14 December 1924, In Peshawar, British India.

Family Background:

He was the son of Prithviraj Kapoor and his wife Ramsarni Devi Kapoor. He was the grandson of the Dewan Basheshwarnath Kapoor and great-grandson of the Dewan Keshavmal Kapoor. He came from the Punjabi Hindu family. Raj had 6 siblings. His two brothers are actors Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, and other two brothers died in infancy. He had two sisters.

Personal Life:

In May 1946, Raj Kapoor married to Krishna Malhotra, who was the daughter of Prithviraj Kapoor’s Maternal uncle. The couple was blessed with five children, Three sons, Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv Kapoor, and two daughters, Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain.

Education:

Prithviraj Kapoor moved to a city to city during the 1930s. Raj Kapoor attended several schools in different cities like Dehradun, Calcutta, and Mumbai. In Calcutta, He attended the St Xavier’s Collegiate School.

Career:

At the age of Ten, He appeared in the 1945’s Inquilab film. After acting in the several films at the age 12, he got the big break with the lead role in Neel Kamal movie with co-star Madhubala. In 1948 at the age of 24, He established his own studio named R.K studio. He made his directorial debut with the film ‘Aag’. In this, he starring himself, Nargis, Kamini Kaushal and Premnath. His first major successful film was Andaz with co-stars Dilip Kumar and Nargis. After he produced several films under the R.K Banner such as Awaara, Shree 420, Jagte Raho, and Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai. He established his screen image modeled from the Charlie Chaplin. outside his production house, He played several films as a lead actor such as Anhonee, Chori Chori, Anari, Dil Hi To Hai. Raj Kapoor also produced hit social movies like Boot Polish, and Aab Dilli Door Nahin. In the 1960s, He produced and starred in romantic musical ‘Sangan’, Which was his first film in color. From the film ‘Around the world’, and ‘Sapnon Ka Saudagar’ He got major success as a lead actor. In 1970, He directed and starred in his ambitious film ‘Mera Naam Joker’. In the latter half of the 1970s, He produced and directed the films which focused on female protagonists such as ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ with actress Zeenat Aman, ‘Premrog’ with Padmini Kolhapure and ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ which introduced Mandakini.

In 1988 at the age of 63, because of asthma, He died.
